Ultrasonic Cleaner Safety Checklist: Before, During and After

Before cleaning

• Identify every material, gemstone, coating, adhesive and electronic component.
• Read the item maker’s care instructions and the cleaner manual.
• Inspect for loose stones, bent prongs, cracks, weakened links or peeling finishes.
• Confirm the item is water-safe and ultrasonic-safe.
• Remove watch movements and electronics unless the manufacturer expressly permits immersion.
• Start with clean water; use a solution only when approved for both item and machine.

While loading the tank

• Follow the minimum and maximum fill guidance.
• Do not place an item directly against another if contact could scratch it.
• Avoid overcrowding.
• Keep unsuitable items out, including porous stones, glued settings and damaged pieces.

During the cycle

• Use the recommended cycle length.
• Do not add flammable or harsh chemicals.
• Keep the unit on a stable, dry surface.
• Stop if the machine behaves abnormally or an item shifts unexpectedly.

After cleaning

• Remove items carefully.
• Rinse only when appropriate for the item.
• Dry thoroughly with a soft, lint-free cloth.
• Inspect settings, clasps and coatings again before use.
• Clean and dry the tank according to the manual.
